Curb Health wins first prize at The Royal College of Psychiatrists' annual addiction conference.

Published 9th September 2024

Earlier this summer, Curb presented our InnovateUK funded research, searching for digital biomarkers which would help predict alcohol craving and heaving drinking behaviours.

In summary
There are estimated to be over 10million people in England alone who exceed the recommended safe limits for consumption of alcohol.

This is associated with significant health related burden to the individual, their families, their employers and their healthcare provider.

In this study, over 5000 users were recruited organically and given access to the Curb mobile application over a 6 month period.

All data from wearables, smart phones and direct user inputs were aggregated to a daily level and a logistic regression model was trained to determine whether or not an individual was at high risk of  craving or consuming alcohol.

We observed a number of trends relating to digital biomarkers such as sleep, heart rate variability (HRV), step count and subjective mood ratings. These trends were in keeping with our hypothesis and existing literature.
